Czech Innovation Festival - Artificial Intelligence Revolution

The Czech Innovation Festival 2018 focuses on ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) as the main topic for the talks, but offer also a broader Czech-German platform for innovative business and academic cooperation.

We will introduce the Czech Innovation Expo, a project showing current key players of Czech science and applied research in a beautifully interactive way. Guests from the two biggest Czech technical universities will explain more about the new international AI CENTER in Prague and thrilling AI research Projects in Brno, joint by global companies like Facebook.

With top IT enterprises like Avast Software we will discuss the boom of AI in business, accompanied by a presentation of ambitious investors targeting research of general artificial intelligence for the Good of humanity (GoodAI).

Czech Innovation Expo
Presentation of the Czech Innovation Potential project - 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. The aim is to present the scientific, research and innovation environment in the Czech Republic using the latest technologies and to introduce our innovation potential and technological know-how. A combination of interactive and audio-visual art, design, technology and new trends within the bearing innovation sectors in the Czech Republic through the latest presentation tools such as expanded and virtual reality. The Czech Innovation Expo is a joint project prepared by Czech Centres in cooperation with the non-profit organisation Czech Innovation.

New AI Centre in Prague
Jiří Vokřínek, Head of AI for Logistics and Manufacturing at Artificial Intelligence Center, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague

Assoc. prof. Jiří Vokřínek is head of AI for Logistics and Manufacturing at Artificial Intelligence Center and deputy chief of Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU in Prague. His research interests include artificial intelligence and its industrial applications in domains of planning and optimization, multi-agent simulations, and coordination of autonomous robots and vehicles. He has participated in many international research projects and industrial cooperation.

Artificial Intelligence Center
Established in 2016, AI Centre is a university research centre, within  Department of Computer Science at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU in Prague. We are a diverse and balanced team counting more than 50 students, researchers and academics. Our mission is to perform fundamental and applied research in artificial intelligence, empirical evaluation and technology transfer, incl. support for startup creation.

AI from the Last Curve on the Road from Prague to Vienna
Jan Černocký, Head of Speech@FIT Research Group, Faculty of Information Technology,, Brno University of Technology

Jan Černocký is Associate Professor (Doc.) and Head of the Department of Computer Graphics and Multimedia at the Faculty of Information Technology, Brno University of Technology (FIT BUT). He founded the BUT Speech@FIT research group in 1997 and serves as its executive director. He graduated from BUT (Ing.) and from Université Paris Sud (Ph.D.) and was with ESIEE Paris, France and OGI Portland, Oregon, USA. His research interests include artificial intelligence, signal processing and speech data mining (speech, speaker and language recognition). He was PI and co-PI of several local, European and US (DARPA and IARPA) funded projects. He served as co-chair of IEEE ICASSP 2011 in Prague and IEEE ASRU 2013 in Olomouc, and will co-chair Interspeech 2021 in Brno. At FIT, he is responsible for courses ISS and ZRE dealing with signal and speech processing. Jan is a Senior Member of IEEE and member of International Speech Communication Association (ISCA). He is also active in popularization of speech data mining and science in general in public media. In 2006, he co-founded Phonexia, which is currently one of world's most important players in speech technologies production.

Faculty of Information Technology BUT focuses on the technical education of future engineers in IT areas and excellent R&D. Thanks to experienced researchers and modern infrastructure (Salomon supercomputer, computing cluster, specialized laboratories), the faculty has been successfully collaborated with a number of local and foreign partners on recognized international (EU and US) research projects.
Research at FIT BUT in Brno has been focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence for decades. Our research results are successfully published in internationally recognized forums (ICASSP, InterSpeech, CVPR, ICCV) and also applied in industry in various fields e.g. speech data mining (speech, speaker and language recognition) or traffic monitoring analysis (vehicle-type recognition, licence plate deblurring, HDR image processing). FIT academics succeeded in establishing a partnership with Facebook in the field of artificial intelligence research and development.

Aljoscha Burchardt is a lab manager at the Language Technology Lab of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH). He is an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Language Technology. His interests include the evaluation of (machine) translation quality and the inclusion of language professionals in the MT R&D workflow. Burchardt is co-developer of the MQM framework for measuring translation quality. He has a background in semantic Language Technology. After his PhD in Computational Linguistics at Saarland University he coordinated the Center of Research Excellence "E-Learning 2.0" at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Burchardt is Deputy Chairman of the Berlin Scientific Society (Berliner Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft).

Martin Bálek, Research Director 
Martin Bálek joined Avast in 2016 as a research director. In this role, he is focusing on further developing Avast’s artificial intelligence and machine learning technology, in order to advance Avast’s automated threat detection capabilities. Prior to joining Avast, Martin Balek worked as a general artificial intelligence researcher at GoodAI, and as a Software Developer at NCLab, where he worked in frontend and backend development. Prior to his career in the software industry, he worked in academic research at Charles University in Prague for 11 years, specialising in theoretical computer science, mathematical aesthetics, modeling of biological cells. He holds a master’s degree in abstract mathematics from Charles University in Prague.

Jiří Dobeš, Director, Business Operations
Jiří Dobeš, Director of Business Operations @ GoodAI Applied, has 10+ years of experience in consulting and project management, further 10 years in scientific software development. Jiří Dobeš holds a Ph.D. in mathematical modelling from Belgian and Czech univer-sities. In GoodAI Applied, Jiří is responsible for the execution and successful delivery of projects plus all operations and contractual matters. He has worked in The Boston Consulting Group, in Dusan SKODA Power and he joined GoodAI Applied, seduced by the chal-lenge of starting and leading a new era of AI.
GoodAI’s mission is to develop general artificial intelligence - as fast as possible - to help humanity and understand the universe. GoodAI started in January 2014, when CEO/CTO Marek Rosa funded the project with $10M USD. Andrej Chrzanowski, CEO
Andrej Chrzanowski is Chief Executive Officer of CARDAM, an unique R&D workplace that focuses on the realization of innovative, technically and technologically advanced solutions and products development by using high level of mathematical simulations, additive technologies, coating systems etc. Andrej studied at Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and obtained his degree in 2002. He started his career at Ingersoll Rand company. Between 2007 and 2013, he worked for Wikov company as a Technical director. In 2013, he joined Česka Zbrojovka company and has worked as their Technical and R&D director. Good AI: Using AI to Solve Business Problems
Jiří Dobeš, Director of Business Operations @ GoodAI Applied will first give a brief overview of GoodAI research and applied teams and then focus on GoodAI Applied cases and experience applying AI in today’s business landscape, with special focus on how to solve real world business challenges and successfully deliver AI solutions using image recognition, sound analysis, banking credit scoring and chatbots, providing examples and demos of case studies.
