Lecture given by Jiwon Shin, author of the CONNECTING: NEW YORK, PRAGUE, SEOUL exhibition as well as a founder and director of Firefly Branding. The In English with Czech translation.

Jiwon will illustrate the process and importance of creating a corporate identity using her own work and experience.

JIWON SHIN is an internationally acclaimed branding designer and the Owner and Executive Director of Firefly Branding, with offices in New York, Prague and Seoul. Born in Seoul, Korea, Jiwon trained as a designer at Ewha University in Seoul and Pratt University in New York. She began her career in Seoul, where she led the Samsung corporate identity.  In 1994, she moved to New York City where she worked for several prominent companies, focusing on the creation of corporate and brand identity. In 2001, she joined FutureBrand as a Creative Director, and three years later she established her own company, Firefly. She extended her activities to yet another continent in 2007, when she opened a Firefly branch in Prague. And earlier this year, Jiwon reached her goal of building a global agency when Firefly was launched in Seoul.

Jiwon has directed over fifty major branding programs in a wide range of industries, contributing to the visual impact and rejuvenation of companies as varied as Samsung, Eta, Nautica, Japan Airlines, Thrivent Financial, Marriott Hotel, UPS, Voom and Halada City. Jiwon has been featured in a number of publications and has received numerous international design awards, including, most recently, the Red Dot Award 2010 in Communication Design for her creative direction on the Halada City brand identity.

The lecture is part of the accompanying program to the CONNECTING: NEW YORK, PRAGUE, SEOUL exhibition which is devoted to bringing together disparate cultures in a world where meanings can be lost in translation, but the language of design is universal. It features the work of four world-class talents: Jiwon Shin, Founder and Executive Director of Firefly Branding, an international design and branding firm with offices in New York, Prague and Seoul; Rony Plesl, one of the Czech Republics foremost contemporary glass designers; the late Geri Taper, an American painter and environmental artist whose work has been displayed in New York, London and Paris; and Sooyeon Lee, Founder and Creative Director of Dank Design House in Seoul, Korea. Connecting: New York, Prague, Seoul is the second in a three-part international dialogue that opened in Seoul in May. The third and final segment will be held in Czech Centre in New York in 2011.
