The lecture will be held in Czech Centre Prague within next programme during all week. Only in Czech.

The Scandinavian House in cooperation with the Czech Centre Prague and the Norwegian Embassy would like to invite you to a lecture about the life and work of the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. The lecture is part of the festival Edvard Munch Week.

Edvard Munch is one of Norways most notable personalities. His grave in Oslo still draws hundreds of visitors a day, paying homage to his unique talent. Edvard Munch was born in 1863, and this year we are celebrating 150th anniversary of his birth. His life was often full of sadness, but also adventure. His mother and sister died when he was very young and Munch himself had a very frail health. Being a painter was, according to mainstream society, not a career worth pursuing. How did Munch’s life influence his work? What is the meaning behind his legendary painting The Scream? What were the reccuring themes in his work? The answers to these question will be provided by Petra Pettersen, curator at the Museum of Edvard Munch in Oslo.

The lecture will be acompanied by presentation of the Czech publication of Munch’s diaries, Být sám (To Be Alone), presented by Jarka Vrbová, translator an co-author of the publication. We will also present to you the new comic book, Munch, by the Norwegian author Steffen Kverneland.
