Conference “Culture and Diplomacy”
On Thursday, April 19, 2012 a conference “Culture and Diplomacy” takes place at the seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic – the Czernin Palace.
Apart from representatives of the Czech Republic, several speakers from
abroad will participate in the Conference, including representatives of
Great Britain – Ali Fisher, Germany – Berthold Franke, Austria - Peter
Fantasy and Denmark – holding the EU Presidency - Flemming Johannesen,
and also Ana Paula Laborinho, president of EUNIC Global Network and
Gottfried Wagner on behalf of a civic initiative “More Europe.”
The Conference is dedicated to the relationship between culture and
diplomacy and shall examine the potential of culture to influence
development of relations between Europe and the rest of the world. The
support of a greater understanding for the European way of life, drawing
attention to its foundational values of democracy, rule of law, respect
for human rights and fundamental freedoms is what first comes to mind.
Taking one step further, the conference shall also elaborate upon how to
apply this potential of culture in the most effective way. Attention
will also be given to the European Union framework as a tool for
increasing the capacity of individual European countries to gain
attention of audiences of countries like China or India and to
effectively communicate with them.
The Conference is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Czech Republic and EUNIC cluster in the Czech Republic in cooperation
with Czech Centers and Institute of International Relations Prague.
