Coal and Steel and Disorient Express London - Prague
VISUAL ART, 13 APRIL 2012 - 28 APRIL 2012, CANDID ARTS TRUST GALLERY, 3 TORRENS STREET, LONDON EC1V 1NQ. A group exhibition by twelve Czech and three British artists who work in a diverse range of media and represent the emerging and vibrant contemporary art scene. The show reflects upon the ideas and aesthetics of the era of modernism, abstraction and the avant-garde, which produced a number of remarkable, visionary pieces of art.
The exhibition also recalls the marriage of art and sport: between 1912 and 1952, Olympic medals were also awarded within the five art disciplines of Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Literature.
Disorient Express London - Prague will see white model train carriages (donated by Hornby) transformed by emerging and established British and Czech artists. The completed carriages will be displayed as a whole train and at the end of London 2012, the carriages will be auctioned to raise money for the Islington-based charity The Access to Sports Project, which works with disadvantaged young people across the borough.
