The Music Day is an event with a tradition of almost forty years, while its message is very pressing in the light of the current state of the music scene affected by the measures of the coronavirus pandemics. Music Day belongs to the ideas of the importance of music in our lives - from music that sounds from all sides, that we love, that dispels sadness and brings revolutionary ideas. Never before has it been more important to emphasize the value that ubiquitous music creates,” says Márton Náray, Director of SoundCzech.

In cooperation with the Czech Centers, the European Music Day Association (EMDA), HEMI and For Live Music, the SoundCzech livestream mediates the performances of those who were selected as representatives of the Czech music scene by the bookers of showcase festivals in 2020. "Supporting the presentation of Czech artists and music projects on the international stage is one of our priorities. Thanks to the cooperation with SoundCzech, the possibilities of this support are significantly expanded. This can also be seen as an effective cooperation between two ministries - the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ”adds Ondřej Černý, CEO of the Czech Centers.

A total of 12 European capitals (Athens, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Istanbul, Krakow, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Manchester, Milan, Prague, Skopje) will take part in the concerts during the Music Day, presenting the program on their own platforms. Selected concerts will then be streamed on one common European Music Day channel, where each city will be represented by one artist. Czech Republic will be represented by the duo teepee.
The concerts will be preceded by a discussion by representatives of the music industry, which will be directed by the For Live Music initiative. The current situation, the effects of the pandemic on the music scene and their solutions, will be discussed. It will be on view both live in the Cross Club and via broadcast.

The SoundCzech pro-export office under the Institute of Arts - Theater Institute continues to evaluate the possibilities of supporting the Czech scene locally and globally and maps the impacts of the measures on the Czech music scene and related industries. The expected time of renewal of pro-export activities at foreign showcase festivals is September, when the Austrian festival Waves Vienna, the German Reeperbahn or the Slovak Sharpe are to take place.
