Architects of today are faced with many dilemmas when asked to accommodate modern diplomacy.

A rapid globalisation together with European integration and the war against terrorism opened general debate concerning diplomacy, its role and future forms.

Triggered by the need for reconstruction of the Czech Embassy´s award winning building in Notting Hill, parallel with the EU enlargement, the panel of experts will look into key as well as slightly provocative questions:

           ·          Can architecture of embassies reflect rapid

changes in diplomacy and foreign policy?

·          What embassies do we need in united Europe; can we even have mobile or virtual embassies?

·          Can an embassy be open, welcoming and secure at the same time?

·          How can modern technologies change the ay embassies are built and function?

·          How can architecture satisfy the multi-functional nature of embassies?

·          How does an embassy reflect a national identity in the global multicultural world?

·          How can these challenges be reflected in the current building of the Czech Embassy in London?

free admission, booking required on 020 73075180 or info@czechcentre.org.uk

The panel discussion is organised as part of Architecture Week 2004.
