Contemporary Czech Animation: University of West Bohemia

Czech Centers, in cooperation with selected universities and film festivals, present a special programme of animated film collections, which pay tribute to contemporary Czech animation. Animation has always belonged to the family silver of Czech(oslovak) cinematography and it still occupies this position, as evidenced by the international attention and awards which contemporary animated works receive.

Viewers will be able to watch the animated shorts on the Dafilms platform, which will focus on contemporary Czech animation as one of its special features. Several one-hour blocks of curated animated films from Czech creators will be available to stream for free on Dafilms during a ten-day period from June to September 2020.

This month we introduce:

University of West Bohemia - Studio of Animation and Interactive Art

Watch the selection via Dafilms HERE
Available for free from June 19 to June 28 2020.

The Studio of Animation and Interactive Art
(Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen) is led by professor Jiří Barta and assistant Vojtěch Domlátil.

The studio provides creative space for connecting classical animation technologies with current digital and interactive production. Students can choose various techniques, visual styles and main focus – during the study they can try a wide range of options or step by step specialize themselves. Apart from drawn, stopmotion and experimental animation there is an excellent background for the puppet animation. Students specialized in 3D can use rare technology motion capture, which school has available. Gaming enthusiasts can focus on games basically the whole time.

Studio of Animation and Interactive Art is collecting numerous successes on the international stage (Annecy, Animafest Zagreb, Hiroshima, Anifilm, Fest Anča, Česká hra roku, Ceny Anděl, Anima Mundi, Fantoche, Monstra, Supertoon, Primanima, Montreal Stopmotion, New Chitose Airport Animation Festival, Turku Animated Film Festival, Zlín Film Fest etc.) and has been ranked as one of the important Czech animation departments.
