Czech outdoor library

Czech Centre Tel Aviv together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic has joint the Tel Aviv Outdoor Library project. Residents as well as tourists can now choose from a selection of Czech titles translated to Hebrew, Russian and English. Among them are for example books by Bohumil Hrabal, Jaroslav Hašek, Michal Viewegh, Jáchym Topol, Karel Čapek and Zdeněk Jirotka.

Every year Tel Aviv Municipality opens 8 outdoor libraries all over the town to provide its residents as well as tourists some good read.  Thanks to the Czech Centre and the Czech Embassy, there are now books representing the best of Czech literature in these libraries, too:

Jaroslav Hašek – Good Soldier Svejk /HEB/

Bohumil Hrabal – I served the King of England /HEB/

Michal Viewegh – The Wonderful Years of Lousy Living /HEB/

Karel Čapek – Criticism pf Words /HEB/

Jáchym Topol – Gargling With Tar /HEB/

Zdeněk Jiroutka – Saturnin /EN, RUS/.

These titles were donated on the occasion on the 25th anniversary of renewal of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Israel and the first visit of President Václav Havel to the State of Israel in April 1990, which the readers can learn from stamps in each of them.
