EXHIBITION: VÁCLAV HAVEL - Citizen and Dramatist

The unique exhibition Václav Havel - Citizen and Dramatist focuses on premieres of Václav Havel's plays from the beginning of the 1960s to the present both on Czech and foreign stages. The exhibition also includes photographs and documents from Václav Havel's life.

This exhibition is a part of the Rehearsal for Truth Theater Festival and captures the productions of Václav Havel's plays from the early 1960s to the present, both on Czech and foreign stages. Photos from the productions are accompanied by photographs and documents from Václav Havel's life.

Short excerpts from Havel's interviews will be read by Untitled Theater Company #61. 

Václav Havel was born on October 5, 1936 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was a writer and a dramatist; one of the first spokespersons
of the Charter 77 initiative; a political prisoner; a leading figure in the Velvet Revolution of November, 1989; the last president of Czechoslovakia (December 21, 1989 – July 20, 1992); and the first president of the Czech Republic (January 26, 1993 – February 2, 2003). He died on December 18, 2011 in the village of Hrádeček, near Trutnov, Czech Republic.

He wrote fifteen plays, and books of his meditations, feuilletons, essays and speeches have been published both in his home country
and abroad.

The Exhibition was prepared by Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague for Czech Centres as part of the anniversary of the year 1968. Organized in collaboration with VHLF.
