Presentation of a new project

March 6, 6:30 PM

Czech Center New York

Don Juan in Prague starring Czech avantgarde singer, violinist and film actress Iva Bittová premiered in 2003 to rave reviews and standing ovations at Bard SummerScape in New York. A lively and contemporary adaptation of Mozart‘s Don Giovanni, the production is being revived this year for an international tour, part of the worldwide

celebration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth. On Sunday, October 22, 2006, Don Juan in Prague will open its tour in Prague at the Estates Theatre of The National Theatre, the very venue where Mozart premiered Don Giovanni in 1787. The production will be the contemporary highlight of the Mozart Prague 2006 Festival, a city-wide festival of Mozart’s “Prague music” sponsored by the city and organized in part by The Strings of

Autumn Festival, Prague’s foremost presenter of avant-garde music. This gala performance

will occur during the anniversary week of the original production of Don Giovanni.

Don Juan in Prague will then travel to European and American capital cities, before concluding its tour in New York City, where it will “close” the 2006 Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), December 13–16, 2006.
