The international chamber orchestra Ostravská banda was founded by Petr Kotik in 2002 as one of the resident orchestras for the biennial Ostrava Days Festival (www.ocnmh.cz). It consists of the top young instrumentalists from both continents (Czech musicians form about one third of the orchestra). During the fall of 2006, Ostravská banda toured Europe extensively, with concerts and workshops at Silesian University in Cieszyn, Slovak Radio Hall in Bratislava, and Paris Conservatory, among other venues. Upcoming concerts of Ostravska banda will include the Ostrava Days 2007 Festival and the Prague Spring 2008 Festival.

At Carnegie Hall, members of Ostravská banda will appear as guests of The Orchestra of the S.E.M. Ensemble, both under the direction of Petr Kotik. The program includes a wide range of repertoire, from Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss (1945) to the recent work The Last Song (2005) by Japanese composer Somei Satoh.
