Science Café & Workshop: Can a Machine Replace an Artist? | With Daniel Sýkora

This unique and interactive project presents innovations and scientific discoveries that have had an impact on the lives of millions of people around the world. Prominent Czech scientists such as the inventors of the contact lens and HIV drug treatments are presented in the exhibition together with representatives of the latest innovations in digital technology and medicine.

The uniqueness of this exhibition is based on interconnection of interactive audiovisual art, design and digital augmented reality technology.

Visitors enter a seemingly empty space with abstract symbols on walls, download the CIE AR iOS or the Android application to their smart devices, and can then explore and discover a variety of stories and information about a scientific discovery or innovation. When the device is pointed at a particular symbol on a wall, the story will unfold on their screen. The CIE has been presented around the world, at Miraikan, The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo and leading institutions for science and innovation in Shanghai, Beijing, Berlin, Munich, Rome, Prague, Athens and Munich, and has attracted great interest from visitors and the media.

The Czech Centre London strives to actively promote and support programmes and events which present the creative and innovative potential of Czech science, research and the technological environment as well as to develop networks and encourage cooperation with United Kingdom partners.

The Czech Centre was for example an early supporter of FameLab - a global competition to find and support the world's most talented new science communicators. Each year, the British Council runs national FameLab competitions in around 30 countries including the Czech Republic. The FameLab International Final takes place during the annual Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK.

Another significant contribution to the promotion of Czech innovation and the start-up community is the Czech Innovation Festival in Berlin organized by the Czech Centre Berlin. Similar events and programmes are presented in the US, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
