The Days Of Poetry

This year's, in a row already eighth "Days of Poetry" will take place in more than forty towns everywhere in the Czech Republic between November 9 and November 23. The event, themed this year "Kde domov můj?" - " Where Is My Home?", celebrates the role of poetry in our live and in the czech cultural tradition. The program includes public readings, happenings, exhibitions, music and theatre performances, actions in clubs, libraries, schools, cinemas, and cafes but as well at many traditional places. At the ČC Prague will be the following program:

Saturday November 11


4pm   „Rozplétání pohádek“ – „Disentangled fairy-tales"

with the author Ivana Březinová.  

Childrens press agency – program for young journalists.


5pm  Public reading with the writer Petra Braunová

Childrens press agency – program for young journalists.


7pm  Petr Král, Marie Št’astná, Petr Hruška

Public authors‘ reading of czech poets.

Musical accompaniment Yvetta Ellerová and SAX & BANG. Presented by Radim Kopáč.



Sunday, November 12 


5pm        Announcement of the result of the poetic

contest at Prague’s grammar schools. Arranged by the grammar school „Na Vítěžné pláni“.


6:30pm   Author’s reading of european poetry

Viola Fischerová (Čech Republic), Uljana Wolf (Germany – translation by Veřa Koubavá, in cooperation with the Goethe Institut), Ileana Malanioiu and Robert Serban (Romabia) and Gearóid MacLochlainn and Jarlath Henderson (Southern Ireland).



Thursday, November 16


6pm        How beautyful it is

Open space for authors‘ readings of poems combined with music played by the band Pilgrim Pimple, www.pilgrimpimple.cz. Poems from the cultural magazine www.totem.cz and others will be presented. Start of the march to the statue of K.H.Máchy on Prague’s Petřín Hill.
