The exhibition was opened by the director of the My Art Museum Taegeun Yi and the president of the Foundation, Mr. Richard Fuxa together with Senator Pavel Fischer and the Czech Ambassador in Seoul, HE Gustav Slamečka

The event, which will last until March 1, is organized by the My Art Museum and the Richard Fuxa Foundation with the support of the Czech Centre Seoul and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul.

Ivan Lendl's collection, the largest private collection of Alfons Mucha's works, was presented to the public for the first time at the Municipal House exhibition in 2014 and with 190,000 visitors became the most visited exhibition in the history of the Czech Republic. In addition, its presentation in the Korean gallery My Art Museum is the first exhibition in the entire Asian region.

The newly opened My Art Museum with an exhibition area of 1,100 m2 is located in the business center of the Korean capital directly opposite the most famous COEX exhibition center, offering the Korean public an easily accessible area where visitors can enjoy art and culture. The aim of the gallery is to organize large-scale exhibitions of diverse content that transcends the boundaries of artistic genres and time, focusing on famous Western artists, fashion, architecture, design and decorative art.

Alphonse Mucha was born in 1860 in southern Moravia. Drawing had been his big love since early childhood. He started working decorative painting jobs around his hometown but soon left to Vienna to work for a leading theatrical design company. In 1887 Mucha moved to Paris to pursue his studies at Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi and at the same time was producing magazine and advertising illustrations. Around Christmas of 1894, Mucha volunteered to create a poster for the play Gismonda and when the posters were put on display around the city he became an overnight sensation. With his fresh and unique technique, he became the creator of a new artistic style initially referred to as Mucha Style but soon became known as Art Nouveau (French for “new art”). While his artistic carreer was mainly based in France, Mucha insisted that his work came purely from Czech art. At the age of 43, he returned back to his homeland and spent 14 years painting The Epic Slav, a series which describes the history of all the Slavic peoples in the world. Mucha himself considered this to be his most important work. He was a huge patriot and even designed the new postage stamps, banknotes and other government documents when Czechoslovakia gained its independence after World War I.
