12 WORLDS - CONTEMPORARY CZECH CHILDREN’S BOOK ILLUSTRATORS

In times of yesteryear, Zdeněk Miler, Květa Pacovská, Miroslav Šašek, Jiří Trnka, Štěpán Zavřel and Helena Zmatlíková reigned over the world of original Czech children’s book illustration. But now? Who is following in their footsteps? Who is earning acclaim both at home and in the international arena?

Look at the twelve names listed above: each one is connected with an original style confirmed in numerous books praised by critics and readers alike; each work represents a special world of places, characters and events not only in words and pictures, but also in other media such as film, performances, music, theatre and photography. So – welcome inside. To know another world is to possess another soul.

The exhibition presents 12 Czech contemporary authors of children illustrations. The selection was made with a focus on the expressive specifics of the authors and the overlaps to the other techniques and media - from classical drawing or painting to textile art or comics. They are the creators of the younger and mid generation, who have had a number of successful book realizations and other art projects.
