Come and enjoy Czech films and Manhattan views on the rooftop of the Bohemian National Hall.Films are screened at dusk every Tuesday, starting June 1st until September 28th. In case of bad weather films will be screened at 8:30 pm in the cinema on the first floor of the Bohemian National Hall.

The unique exhibition Talking Glass is a result of a creative encounter of glass artist Borek Sipek and didgeridoo player Ondrej Smeykal. Their unexpected meeting was witnessed by the photographer Jan William Drnek, whose large-format color photographs became a part of the project. The exhibition will be opened on June 17th in New York.

A good-natured, light comedy that is based on the novel and the screenplay of one the most popular contemporary Czech writer Michal Viewegh. A disparate bunch of Czech vacationers are thrown together on a one-week package bus holiday to an Adriatic seaside resort. The strange ensemble of characters is led by a plain looking yet witty woman who is taking her ornery middle-aged parents on holiday. Also along for the trip are a minor pop star, a gay couple, a pair of teenage sexpots, a homophobic mom and dad and their two kids, and a sci-fi obsessed diving enthusiast who gets turned on by women swimming underwater. Entanglements, adventures, and misadventures multiply as couples are made, unmade, almost made, and then broken up. And yet, against all odds, the vacation proves transformative by the week's end.

Ecce Homo Homolka is an ironic comedy that has a strong satirical-critical subtext. The Homolka family makes you laugh and shiver at one time.

Helena Altmanova is a likable high school French and literature teacher, whose healthy, light-hearted attitude has gained her popularity among teachers and students alike. However, her personal life has big surprises in store for her. Her extended family provides a wealth of opportunity for surprises. Life in the same apartment with her ex-husband, the successful writer Karel, problems with her widowed sister Kristyna, her son Adam’s marital troubles, and grandmother Alzbeta’s new-found love all keep Helena so busy that she doesn’t have time for her own life. Even so, one day she realizes what most of us realize when we’ve given up on our dreams. Helena meets Frantisek, a doctor with Emergency Services under tension-filled circumstances, and falls head over heels in love! This marks the beginning of a stormy, passion-filled story about breaking up and making up, in which the two love birds complicate relationships, whether on purpose or by mistake, with their partners and other family members.

SUMMER ON THE ROOF - Film screening on the rooftop of the Czech Center New York. This film is a result of a mystification, which has been lasting since 1967 and is still alive. It is a mockumentary about Cimrman, a universal Czech genius that was active in all branches of science and art in the times before the First World War. Unfortunately, he has never achieved proper recognition for his achievements. There is a specialized theater in his name in Prague developing this idea in quasiscientific seminars and theatre plays. Jára Cimrman ležící, spící consists mainly of independent sketches, where Cimrman meets various historical personalities of his times and advises them: he is e.g. responsible for A. P. Čechov calling his play Three Sisters, he advises Gustav Eiffel in conceiving the Eiffel Tower etc. The play/film is one of an extensive series representing a particular Czech type of intellectual humor poking fun at any trace of nationalism Czechs might possess.

Daisies: Two teenage girls, both named Marie, decide that since the world is spoiled they will be spoiled as well; accordingly they embark on a series of destructive pranks in which they consume and destroy the world about them. This freewheeling, madcap feminist farce was immediately banned by the Czechoslovak government.
