Ivan Blatny (1919–1990) is one of the most significant Czech poets of the twentieth
century. The Drug of Art is the first major collection of Blatny‘s poetry to appear in English. Published by the Ugly Duckling Presse. It presents an overview of the poet‘s work, including early lyrics, later multilingual poems, a long poem in prose and a selection of poems written mostly or entirely in English. The Drug of Art is translated by Matthew Sweney, Justin Quinn, Alex Zucker, Anna Moschovakis and Veronika Tuckerova.
It includes an introduction by V. Tuckerova, a foreword by Josef Skvorecky and an afterword by Antonin Petruzelka. Organized in cooperation with Ugly Duckling Presse www.uglyducklingpresse.org.
