House of Europe (Дім Європи)

European Union launches House of Europe for people-to-people exchange between Ukraine and EU.

Kyiv, October 17, 2019

House of Europe, the newest European Union initiative for Ukraine, was launched in Kyiv on 16 October.

This programme will foster professional and creative exchange between Ukrainians and their colleagues in EU countries. With a budget of EUR 12.2 millions, House of Europe will provide a whole range of different opportunities.

House of Europe will run for the next three years, focusing on different professional fields: culture and creative industries, education, health, social entrepreneurship, media, and youth. Programme encompasses 20+ separate programme lines enabling to go for conferences, professional events, internships, and networking in the EU, or to enrol in study tours, residencies, trainings, and other forms of support.

“The term ‘House’ is to be understood rather symbolically: it does not refer to a building but the project tests collaboration models and practices in a broader sense, that create spaces, whether physical or digital, permanent or temporary - for cultural exchange, co-creation and people-to-people contacts.”,Ambassador Matti Maasikas, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, commented.

House of Europe is all about people to people. Focusing on the individual experience and capacity-building, the programme provides a broad range of different, customised opportunities for ambitious Ukrainians who want changes and development for themselves and for their country. On 16 October the first 11 open calls have been launched – applications can be submitted online. The next wave of House of Europe open calls will already follow in January 2020.

House of Europe also has a dedicated agenda to regions and small cities, including those located in Eastern Ukraine. “We are committed to go where we are needed the most, to work beyond the Kyiv bubble. Not only do we have a set of tools to reach out to the regions – with our Mobile Pavilions we even set the House of Europe itself on the move”,‒ Christian Diemer, Head of Programme House of Europe, commented.

“In our days interregional exchange and cooperation is one of the most useful ways to support local development. House of Europe wants to help professionals and reform leaders to drive innovative, constructive changes, enhancing their communities and strengthening key reforms, especially outside the capital and in the regions.”,Beate Köhler, Director Goethe-Institut Ukraine, commented.

The programme is initiated by the EU Delegation to Ukraine and funded by the European Union. Implementation of House of Europe is led by Goethe-Institut Ukraine, with British Council, Institut Français, and České Centrum as consortium partners which also co-finance the project.
